I have been looking for the Theme to Boston Public forever and I finally found it. I used to watch Boston Public when I was in Middle School. It was probably a lame show, but I enjoyed lame TV at a point in my life. This is Thomas Newman so you know it’s good.
They say LA has consistent weather but this seems a bit compulsive.
I have 2 announcements for you all tonight.
First is my map of Veril. Veril is the world in which I play DnD using IRC. Their map was lackluster at best. It was hard to read and not very enticing so I decided to make my own. Cartography, while I couldn’t do it for a job, is really cool. The amount of detail and creativity that goes into maps is quite extraordinary. It’s a world on paper. A single sheet of paper. So I present to you, my first attempt at a map for the World of Veril (5mb). If you don’t have fast internet, check out this version that’s only 1.5mb.
Second, is Pass Brain. I’ve been learning PHP recently, and I needed a project. First I made an application that shows the status of employees at a workplace. I made it for my job at Mac Pac. They’re still using it and it’s always encouraging when people use your software. So I made another app. It’s called Pass Brain. I got the idea from Domain Brain. If the owner of this application is concerned about copyright issues or something, please contact me.
Pass Brain, is a username and password storage application. Basically, you enter a URL, Username and Password and it saves it so you can access it from your web server wherever you are. I made a really clean interface for it and some security features. Mostly, because this will be used in public places where you don’t have your automatic logins all set up, the username and, even more so, the password are at low contrast so that people looking over your shoulder would have to be very close to the screen to read the text. Also you have to click on the URL so it will display the username and password in the first place.
I have made a public demo for anyone to try. (Keep in mind that ANYONE can see this so don’t put anything real on. It’s just for testing.) If you have access to a web server with a mysql database and php, I’ll be happy to give you a copy. I’m not particularly comfortable with storing someone else’s passwords on my server purely because of security issues.
On a personal note, we went mini golfing today at work. It was a lot of fun. I’m ok at mini golf but not that great. Somewhere around a 54 for 18 holes. The place also had video games, food and racing of the slick track, paved track, grand prix and drag variety. I did not partake in the racing. Also, my boss is a pretty amazing dude. I can’t get an artist past him, past or present. Driving down the LA freeway, he turns on nothing else but Joanna Newsom’s Ys. Amazing.

I’ve been meaning to post. I just haven’t. It was insanely hot this weekend. Like unnecessarily hot. I couldn’t made it hard to sleep. To keep my self entertained, I’ve been cooking, cleaning and playing more Dungeons and Dragons more. I found a good group on an IRC server. If you’re interested, let me know and I can hook you up.
Other than that, it’s been interesting here. I am still skeptical of LA just because of all the crap I’ve heard. NI is still pretty cool. I’m doing things that I can’t really talk about, but it’s a good time.
I’ve been really into David Cross lately. Really funny guy. He has that extreme sarcastic humor. Here’s one of my favorite bits. It’s not work appropriate (unless you work where I have in the past). Check the part around 2:43 just over half way through.

I was editing my Face book profile today, I pruned my quotes. I actually am really proud of some of those on there, so I’m going to share them with you. If you are already intimately familiar with my Facebook profile, stop reading this post, and get a life beyond Facebook. Things like that can take over your life.

So today was the first day at NI. It actually went by really fast. What a great work environment. Totally laid back. I think coming from the computer industry (angry nerds) and entering the music industry (chill dudes) it’s easy to be appreciative of that. People were working in bare feet, jokes all the time, an office kitten, etc. It made me feel so good about doing work, because there is a staff of really nice, hardworking, RELAXED people. So much better than other places. I dunno if this is the office I belong at. I’d really like to be doing sound design or programming, but I probably don’t have the chops for either yet (especially the programming part). Oh well, I’m certainly not complaining. Like I said, it’s a great place to work.
I’m not sure if these updates will continue as frequently as this in the future. I have gotten over the obvious “first time here” part. I can get around by my self to the places I need to be and I’m mostly settled. I’m sure I’ll post something though.
I walked today.
Quite far actually. I forgot which metro stop to get off at and so I had to walk about a mile back in order to get to where I am working. That’s why I did this today and not tomorrow when it’s early in the morning and I didn’t have a time constraint. It’s kind of a cool area. I can see the Hollywood sign and up the street a ways is the Hollywood walk of Fame. Street signs are blue, Pink Berry is a staple, and palm trees are everywhere, including my street.
There are a large amount of Asian, Black and Hispanic folk here. More so than white people. Not a bad thing, it’s just different. Out of those 3 groups, none of them seem to be dominant. There’s just a lot of everyone, except white folk, but aparently they are all in a different area. Imma get cultured here!
The people I’m subletting from had a barbeque last night. They had a couple of friends over and they were good company. Good people, religious. I feel like that even though I, myself am not religious, I often connect well with those type of people. I should clarify thought that nothing about a zealot intrigues me and in fact I try to stay away from them as much as possible. But if you can let my religion be, you’re usually good people.
